ever heard the saying...

someone being so tight they squeak. we say this about my brother ALL the time. he's 40 and will be retiring the end of April. there is a reason he can do that. he squeaks when he walks.

jason and i are becoming those tightwad people. saturday we debated a trip to louisville to buy diapers at target. i had a $1.50 coupon for target diapers. in our 30 second discussion we deduced that it would cost more to drive to target than the $1.50 coupon would save us.

we were already planning to venture to the new Taj MaKroger. while there, we bought kroger comfort brand diapers. come to find out, they work just as well as target diapers and actually feel a little softer to the touch. same number of diapers for the same price PLUS i have 2 $3.00 coupons to use on these diapers. the result, saving money with coupons and not wasting gas driving to target where i would inevitably spend more money than i need to anyway. score!

so if you're walking beside me and hear a little noise; no worries it's just me,
squeak,squeak.

When Vacations Attack...part 1 of 3

Let's just say that Daddy J and I do not have the best of luck when traveling internationally. We have travelled out of the US 3 times (together) and all 3 times something has happened to interrupt our supposed-to-be relaxing vacation. Daddy J's brother recently tagged me on facebook mentioning this show on TLC titled "When Vacations Attack". We should sign-up. Seriously. Through this series, you'll understand why.

This first one is not extreme. The following 2 will be much more extreme. I will leave you in suspense :) But it was the first time travelling internationally together so it has to be included. It was our honeymoon; 6 years ago this month :) We boarded Royal Carribean's Jewel of the Seas. awwwww, this is what i hope Heaven is like! Our trip was relatively eventless until the last few days.
The cruise took us to Key West, FL where we woke up to steel drums being played outside our balcony on the ship and we toured a butterfly garden. Butterflies were EVERYWHERE and would light right on you wherever those chose to!
Georgetown, Grand Cayman Island where we snorkeled on a barrier reef and swam with and fed stingrays at stingray city

Cozumel, MX where we rode a bus to Royal Caribbean's private island that no longer exists due to Hurricane Wilma (to be discussed in the next post). On Paradise Island we soaked up lots of rays, swam in the Caribbean Sea, and might have had a little some rum punch.
We were supposed to also stop at Costa Maya, MX. As we travelled closer to Costa Maya the seas became rough. The swells were 10-12 feet, which is a big deal, even on a ginormous cruise ship! We both became a little sea sick but that's what Dramamine is made for. Luckily, we were smart enough to have brought some! The captain deemed it unsafe to make port at Costa Maya; we had a full day at sea instead. It worked out fine because we spent the day napping and swimming and catching the Caribbean rays and seeing water as blue as we had NEVER seen it before. Just sit and enjoy this for a minute.

Absolutely breathtaking and mesmorizing!
(Can you tell I'm itching for a vacation?!?)

We missed out on some fascinating sites, I'm sure. Here is what google-image provided me with for Costa Maya, MX:

We were supposed to see ancient Mayan ruins during our stop in Costa Maya, MX so these are some of the sites we missed out on :(  But knowing us, we'll see them on another trip!

On the way home we almost missed our connecting flight to Louisville. They actually stalled the plane's take off for our arrival, how amazing is that?! Unfortunately, they did not stall the plane for the arrival of our luggage. So, once in Louisville we had to wait for our luggage before we could be on our way.

Overall, our first international vacation together was not too stressful. But those odd little mishaps...well, maybe they were only a mere precursor for trips to come. *cue Twilight music*

*the photos in this blog post are not mine. they were copied from google images as 2005 was not the age of digital photos in the Raker household*
