Baby J,
Today you are 16 months old. You are a hot mess! You make Mommy and Daddy laugh all the time! We love you more than you will ever know. Happy 16 months of life <3
Here are some things you should know about yourself as a 16 month-old:
1. You are a climbing machine: boxes, toys, furniture, ladders, etc. If it can be climbed, you try it.
2. You are very affectionate. Hugs are given freely, kisses when you choose. Milo gets hugs and kisses anytime you catch him!
3. You LOVE to go bye-bye. Mommy and Daddy have started spelling O-U-T and S-H-O-E-S. If we say them within earshot of you, you think we are going bye-bye and run to the front door.
4. You LOVE to read. We spend hours each week reading. You bring us a book, sit in our laps, and listen while we read book after book after book after book after book...
5. You aren't too interested in TV unless Elmo, commercial music, or animals are on. You will immediately stop what you're doing when you hear those things.
6. Mimicing is a new favorite activity for you. When Mommy and Daddy yawn and stretch, you do the same.
7. When you are excited you run through the house screaming or you swing your arms back and forth if you're sitting down.
8. The slide is your favorite piece of playground equipment. You like to slide down but your favorite thing to do is climb up!
9. You are saying several words: Daddy, Mommy, bath, bye-bye, ball, hi, this, that, bites, ball, kitty cat. You also have a plethora of animal sounds: elephant, duck, pig, cow, snake, cat, dog, sometimes wolf.
10. Your appetite has drastically decreased. It is more interesting for you to throw food on the floor and smash it on your high chair tray. Bananas, blueberries, peas, milk, cheese, lima beans, strawberries, sweet potatoes, peanut butter, guacamole are all some of your favorite foods.
11. You love bathtime. The new activity during bathtime is to lay on your belly and kick your feet and blow bubbles in the water. This excites Mommy and Daddy as we want you to learn to swim and love the water-not fear it as so many members of our family do.
12. Like any boy, you love balls. You have learned to throw them and you love to play basketball.
13. You love to play with Daddy when he comes home from work. An activity you two love to do together is for Daddy to throw a blanket or towel over your head and you walk around bumping into things. You laugh when you do bump into something and when Daddy growls or hisses at you while your head is covered.
14. Playdates are becoming a regular occurence for us. You love playing with your buddies.
15. You love to be outside. If anyone goes outside without you, tears are present within seconds!
16. You are a happy baby toddler. People comment how you are always smiling every time they see you. And you do have a VERY cute smile :)
Although you are technically not a "baby" anymore, you are still our baby and we love you incredibly. Thank you for making us your Mommy and Daddy!!
If there was a fly with us in the car today, it was likely laughing :) we were.
I did a post a few months ago about some of the intellectualnerdycrazyridiculous conversations that occur between Daddy J and I. On our way home from Louisville today (from buying my very own laptop, yeah!) we had such a conversation. Immediately I said, "I need to add this to my "Fly blog series". Enjoy the glimpse into our ridiculous minds :)
We stopped by DQ to buy mini blizzards. Daddy J got his favorite, Resee's. I ordered my favorite, chocolate covered strawberry. I didn't receive what I ordered. Someone forgot to add my chocolate, BUMMER! The conversation occured something like this:
Daddy J: "Yeah, I'd like to order a chocolate covered strawberry blizzard without the chocolate."
(once he gets started it really does become ridiculous. that's the point when my eye rolling commences-again see previous post if you haven't yet :)
Daddy J (continuing): "I'd like a bacon cheeseburger. Could you hold the bacon and cheese?"
Mommy J: "I'd like a hamburger, no ham please." (**why is it called a hamburger anyway?**)
Daddy J: "Yeah, a hamburger. No ham. Can I get beef instead?"
This is the point when we look back at Baby J, who had been asleep. He had his eyes half open with one hand partly on his forehead, fingers covering his eyes. It's like he was saying, "God, why did you send me out of heaven to these crazy people who think they're funny. It's gonna be a long life. Lord, please help me!"
Maybe this doesn't read as funny as it was for us to experience. Maybe it was so funny because Daddy J and I are sleep deprived due to Baby J being awake half the night for 2 nights in a row. I hope it at least brings a smile to your face :) Happy weekend!
- i've got plenty to do; just don't wanna
- i always thought people who were addicted to physical activity were nutso. now, i'm becoming nutso. setting and reaching time/distance goals is very addicting. so is weight loss!
- has a room reserved in my name at the seelbach. seriously, hoity-toity for me. i'm a hampton inn kind of girl. seriously, i won't know how to act. but the plan is to hole myself up in the room and enjoy some alone time or time with my sis if she decides to go.
- speaking of my sis, she is a-mazing! she is about to go through a battle that no mother should ever have to do...she is doing it twice. monday, her son will be admitted to the hospital in preparation for another bone marrow transplant. ANOTHER. man, do i have some questions when i get to heaven.
- daddy j and i were swabbed to be potential bone marrow donors. NOTHING would bring me more joy than to try to save someone's life. i pray and hope i am a match for someone.
- if you see me teary anytime in the near future, don't be surprised. i can be a bit of a wreck internalizing all i'm feeling...
- baby j is a hot mess! his vocabulary is growing by leaps and bounds! he also loves to climb (just like his daddy). he is more and more fun everyday!
- my house is ALWAYS a wreck! daddy j and i decided our whole house has NOT been clean in 2 years. seriously?! driving me nuts! and when i clean something, it's a disaster soon afterwards, ugh.
- i've been a terrible blogger. part of that is because i am waiting to get my own laptop, especially since our desktop is so very old it won't turn on. lol. so i resort to internet access only in the evenings when jason brings his work laptop home. limited internet is VERY hard on a gen x-er!
- our dvr is 80% full. we have some serious tv catching up to do. it's just more fun to play with a toddler :)
- happy belated mother's day to eveyone i didn't see. but hey! everyday is mother's day so happy mother's day!!!
